A workshop out the back, a showroom out the front.

We are a mechanical workshop with a 4x4 accessory showroom, which means the gear you buy gets fitted by the same mechanics who service your car, in the same building.

What we do

Servicing, repairs, safety inspections and 4x4 accessory fitting, in our own words. If you are not sure which of them you need, ring us and we will work it out.

General servicing

Routine servicing for the cars, wagons and utes that do the Lachlan Valley's running around. Booked in, done properly, back on the road.

Repairs

Mechanical repairs across a wide range of vehicles, from a warning light that will not go out to a job that has to be sorted before you can drive home.

Safety inspections

Safety inspections carried out here at the workshop on Rankin Street, alongside whatever else the car needs doing.

Diagnostics and fault finding

Electrical and electronic faults traced properly rather than guessed at. One traveller wrote that we solved his computer glitch on the spot.

4x4 accessory fitting

Everything in the showroom gets fitted here by our own mechanics. Bar work, driving lights, fuel pre-filters, UHF, air systems and touring gear.

Accessory sales

A proper 4x4 accessory showroom on site, so you can look at the gear, talk it through, and have it fitted by the people who sold it to you.

On the Newell

Some of the best things said about us come from people who were only passing through.

Forbes sits on the Newell Highway. Tamworth to Mildura. Orange. The Gold Coast. People pull in a long way from home with something that has to be sorted today, and more than a few of them have gone to the trouble of writing about it afterwards.

Local or passing through, it is the same workshop and the same mechanics either way.

Our shed

The old Patterson building, 110 to 120 Rankin Street.

Brick, steel trusses and a Holden sign nobody has taken down.

Nick took the lease on the old Patterson building in 2019 and Forbes Automotive Services has been in it ever since. Anyone who grew up here knows the shed. The Holden sign is still up on the back wall, and we have never had a reason to take it down.

In 2021 we opened the 4x4 accessory showroom, which is what turned a workshop into somewhere you can plan a trip as well as fix a car. Since then we have kept growing, and we are still putting on qualified mechanics.

Fitted here, by us

Nothing gets sold in the showroom that we cannot fit in the workshop.
